Every shop downtown, on one list. It costs you nothing.
The short version: what the site is, what we need off you, and why I am the one building it.
Somebody is standing on John Street with a phone.
They want to know who sells what, who is open right now, where to park, and how far the walk is. Nowhere tells them all of that. So they guess, or they give up and drive to Kanata.
That is what this is for. Three streets, every business on them, in one list that belongs to the whole street rather than to any one shop.
A page of your own
Your name, what you sell, your hours and how to reach you. Not a line in a spreadsheet.
On the map
A pin at your door, with walking directions from wherever somebody parked.
Open or closed, right now
The site reads your hours and says which you are, so nobody walks up to a locked door.
Your sales and your events
Put a sale on the front page yourself. No committee and no waiting.
Have a look at the shops page and you will see the shape of it.
Eight things, and you know all of them off the top of your head.
No paperwork, and nothing to dig out of a drawer. This is the whole list.
The name
Exactly as it is on the sign.
What sort of place it is
Pick the nearest from a list. It is what the filter buttons use.
A couple of lines
What you sell, in the words you would use to somebody at the door.
Where you are
Street and number. It puts you on the map.
A phone number
The one you answer.
When you are open
Your hours, and a line about anything odd like a holiday closure.
Your website
If you have one. Plenty do not, and the listing works the same.
Who to ask
A name and a way to reach whoever we should talk to about the listing.
Then tick a box saying we can put it on the website, and that is you done. If typing is the part you hate, say so and somebody will type it up for you.
Two reasons, and I would rather say both than have you guess.
Rob Kingsbury here. I built this and I run Kingsbury Creative, a web shop in town.
The first reason is that I live here and I own a small business here, same as you. A downtown people can actually find is a downtown that stays open, and that is worth my evenings.
The second is work, and there is no polite way to say it so I will just say it. Some of you will look at this and want more than a listing. A photograph that did not come off a phone. A site of your own. Somewhere to sell online. That is what I do for a living and I hope a bit of it comes my way.
Nobody has to. Your listing is free, it stays free, and it is exactly the same listing whether you ever hire me or not.
