About Your Shop

These go in the directory and on your own page. Keep them short. Somebody reading on a phone outside your door is the audience.

Exactly as it is on the sign. Include “The” if the sign does.

Pick the closest. This is what the filter buttons on the shops page use.

A few plain words for what you actually do. This sits under your name in the list. Leave it out and we use the kind above.

Two or three sentences. Say the thing people come to you for, not everything you stock. If you would rather we wrote it, leave it and somebody will ring you.

Leave it empty if you do not. A Facebook page is fine, paste the link.

Pictures come after. There is nowhere to attach one here, on purpose. When your page goes up you get a sign-in of your own, and you put them on from there.

Two pictures, and both are optional. Your sign or logo is a square, and anything from 400 by 400 pixels up is enough; it is drawn small, beside your name. A photo of your shop runs across the top of your page, so it wants to be a wide one, 1600 pixels or more along the top edge, with the middle of the frame carrying the shop. A phone photo is bigger than both of those already. JPG, PNG or WEBP, up to 12 MB.

Until you add a logo the site draws your first initial, which looks fine.

How to find you

The street address and the hours stay on this website permanently. They are the two things people search for and the two things a directory usually gets wrong.

Just the number.

Which of the three you are on.

Only if you picked “somewhere else downtown” above.

The number you want a customer to ring. Leave it empty and your page simply will not have one. Never a home or mobile number, this goes on a public page.

Your Regular Hours

Tick Closed for the days you are closed. A day left blank shows as closed too. What you put here is what goes on your page, so nobody has to retype it and nobody gets it wrong.

Seasonal changes, holiday closures, or a week off in January. Optional, and it prints under your hours.

Who we talk to

This part never goes on the website. It is so we can reach you if something on your listing looks wrong.

Whoever we should ask about the listing.

It does two things. It becomes your sign-in once your page goes up, and it is how we reach you about your listing. It is not printed on your page: visitors see your phone number and your website, not this.

What happens after you send it.

  1. Somebody reads itA person, not a robot. Usually within a couple of days.
  2. We ring you if anything looks offWrong street number, hours that contradict your window. It happens and it is easier to ask than to guess.
  3. It goes upYour listing on the shops page, and your own page with your name in the address.
  4. You get a sign-in of your ownIf you left an email address, we send you a link to pick a password the day the listing goes up. That is where photographs go on: your sign or logo, and pictures of the shop.
  5. You keep it right after thatNew hours, moved, closed for two weeks in February. Sign in, change it, and it is live straight away.

Nothing here has to be perfect. If a box is awkward to type, leave it, and whoever reads this will ring you and take it down over the phone.
